Another update about our friend Denis. He is out and doing quite well. His kidney has woken up and he was able to skip dialysis last Thursday. His wound is healing nicely and he is off all pain meds and is driving around town again. He is still out from work for the near future.
Taylor and I saw Dennis over lunch today. He was doing fairly well. The organ has started to wake up, although it’s not up all the way yet. He has been walking around for a while and is soon (perhaps as soon as later today) going to be going home to continue recovery there.
My friend Dennis’ transplant happened late yesterday afternoon/evening. The doctors said everything went well. Kaley and I were with him before and after the surgery and he was in great spirits prior, although his nervousness did finally show through just before they rolled him into the pre-op room when we left him. Afterwards he looked wonderful. The new kidney had not started producing urine yet, but I guess that’s pretty common in cadaver donors. His blood pressure (normally high) was like a jogger (125/66). A good friend of mine, Dennis, who was a huge pillar of support for Kaley and I during Kaley’s dialysis days finally got his own call! Dennis has been on dialysis for 3 years waiting for a new kidney and he during his vacation out east he got the call! His transplant will happen sometime Sunday.

We discussed some of our history, what my and Kaley’s experiences have been with transplant, Dave’s experience with donation, and some of the needs and positives and negatives of organ donation.
