Happy New Years Eve Eve!

I am finally feeling better and have gotten my appetite back, although there are still lots of things that don’t look appealing to me. Kaley was feeling well enough yesterday for us to go and see A Christmas Carole at the Guthrie (a Christmas gift from me and my employer to Kaley). She’s up and about again tonight (after a rough time after the play and morning), so hopefully this means shes starting to turn the corner on this virus.

Update 12/28/06

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

Kaley hasn’t been able to beat down the nausea caused by this stomach flu enough to keep liquids down, so I brought her in to the ER last night (then went home to continue recovering myself). I was surprised however at 12:30am when she showed up at home again. They gave her a couple of liters of fluids, and some potassium and magnesium and sent her home! She is still fighting the nausea now, but hopefully things things are moving in the right direction.

I’m getting better, I’m not having much problems with nausea anymore. I have a new found appreciation for what Kaley goes through on a daily basis after my bout with nausea. I can’t image dealing with that (on a certain level) everyday. This is saying something because I had a lot of appreciation for what she goes through before I got sick.

Quarantine

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

The Rotering House has been officially closed for business since early Christmas Morning. The Norwalk flu virus (or whatever they are calling it these days) has hit quickly and swiftly. My Mom was the first to go down, followed by myself and Dad. Andy and Christa are currently in the throws of the worst of it. It is one of the nastiest cases of continuous diahrea and vomiting flus I have ever met. UGGHH in the biggest way. I’m still not in great shape, but am hoping by morning, I will be able to help my Andy, more. At least I can keep up on the laundry, cats, and minor clean up.

Think my two good minutes are about up. Wish us well. We’ll be in touch when we can.

Happy Christmas Morning!!

I’m hoping that whatever your religious feel for the day is, that you will accept this as a heartfelt greeting of love and joy!

The past two weeks have been a flurry. Of course, this spirit-filled season leaves me with lists a mile long of things I’d like to accomplish, want to see or do, and wishing that I could find more ways to touch the lives of both the people I know and love, as well as those I have never met that could use some help, happiness, and joy in their lives.

This sounds complicated enough, but I’ve also had to throw in a tooth extraction that “dry socketed”, my cervical cancer biopsy (painful), a few sky-high fever nights, and the usual nausea/vomiting. No one, has of yet, has taken me seriously that the fevers are a big flashing sign that demands attention. The teeth guys say it’s not from the teeth, as there doesn’t appear to be an infection, and my infectious disease doc is hoping it’s related to the teeth. I kind of felt like she was already on “holiday” by the time I saw her last week. She didn’t run blood cultures, either, and we already know that if the cause is my mico-bacteria infection creeping back, it can take up to two months to grow out in the culture. So, as my next appointment is in two months, I’m going to request that I have the cultures drawn this coming week, so at least we can start the investigation process. Lots of other little medical “hangnails” still wanting attention, but finding anyone who is not on vacation right now, much less keeping banker’s hours, is a lot like PULLING TEETH! (Oh how appropriate!)

So, yup, I’ve been down and out with the usual collection of medical woes, but not down and out, at all. Heck, ‘Tis the Season to be Jolly! Every time I open my eyes and don’t throw up (or am not consumed with fevers and teeth), I’ve been working on my little holiday projects, out visiting with family and friends, seeing festive shows, celebrating our first anniversary, running errands, getting my hair “done” at the salon, and SINGING! Yup, you heard it here first! I was able to participate in the “Nine Lessons and Carols” on the 17th, and made it through the first Christmas Eve service tonight with gusto! I sang with every part of my heart and soul. Unfortunately about ten minutes into the second service, I gaged that I had approximately a minute-and-a-half before I was going to throw up on someone’s shoes, so a made a quick exit and made it to the bathroom. Andy fixed me up with a bit of Ativan, and I got snuggled in on a bench for the rest of the service. I am feeling better, but am still running a fever.

Know I’m not the only one feeling cruddy during the holidays… my Mom came down with the stomach flu yesterday, and tonight, I hear that Dad isn’t feeling well either. I hope that I am doing well enough that Andy and i can drive down to my Grandma’s house tomorrow. At choir, Dara had to leave early, and Mary was several shades of white and green by the time I left. On the flip side, Dennis came along to make merry with us today and came with Andy to the second service tonight. HE is doing really well. I can’t believe how far he has come!

I will be celebrating all week, as I’ve had to take things pretty slow, so anyone that is still up for baking cookies, writing out Christmas cards, playing “Christmas Village”, and listening to Holiday CDs, give me a jingle! I’ll enjoy the season as long as I can!!

In the words of Tiny Tim, “God bless us, every one.”

And, in the words of Santa, “Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Update 12/12/06

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

Kaley finally got in to see the dentist today. She had the problem tooth removed, along with a piece of metal that remained from an apparent botched root canal from nearly 10 years ago. She’s at home recovering now. She’s to see the same doctor a couple of weeks after Christmas for a consultation for other longer term solutions. Most likely to result in dentures and possibly more tooth removals. Basically we’re still where we always were with her teeth: until her stomach really gets under control, there is no point is spending a lot of money on cosmetic things (i.e. permanent implants).

I am just glad she’s won’t be in pain anymore. I would love her the same even if they had to pull all of her teeth. :)
